As you say, Exhaustion is the word this week.....i often wonder how Ignorance, selfishness, bigotry and greed seems to have limitless energy , where-as it seems so hard to fight against it? ..i can only hope it only seems limitless, and that it has a limit which can be surpassed in the fight to regain america's morals :(

Dr. Eddie,

We appreciate you!

American historian Bill Copeland said,”The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend all your life running up and down the field and not score.”

Our Democratic Party hasn’t clearly articulated their goals and how to attain them. We are all over the place like children playing hide and seek. Time is running out!

Thank you for spending time at Wayne State U to help them plan a defense against Trump and the Heritage Foundation's destructive plans being implemented. I graduated from Wayne in 1965, a time during which our country was also in turmoil, good turmoil, that lead to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Malcom X spoke at a lunch hour lecture program which I attended, and I enrolled in our English department's graduate level course, American Negro Authors. It is my hope that the diversity that existed then is still very much a part of Wayne.

During Covid, Wayne's alumni sponsored an online book club which included discussions of Just Mercy, Driving While Black, Half of a Yellow Sun, On a Night of a Thousand Stars, All the Lonely People, and The House of Eve. Unfortunately, it disbanded. Not wanting to end a good thing, I joined a similar book club at the University of Washington where one of my granddaughters is a student. My first read with UWA was Everett's James which then inspired me to read his Trees, so the spirit of reading literature reflecting diversity, political upheavals in nation's at war or under cruel autocratic rulers, as well as occasional lighter fare all reminded me that there is kindness, caring, and love that can rise amidst the chaos. It also can inspire us to "Speak up, speak, out, get in the way. Get in good trouble and help redeem the soul of America." Thank you, Professor Glaude, for following Congressman Lewis' advice and inspiring us to follow it as well!

Milton Friedman was a non-practising Jew and the father of Project 2025: Not the Heritage Foundation. Friedman was the antithesis of Keynes and the Keynesian social policy component of FDR's New Deal. The classroom experiment was Chile under Pinochet; his acolytes "The Chicago Boys" had a coming out party for his economic theory. Pinochet was the willing authoritarian dictator to provide aid and abet these acolytes: Over time it's been refined and honed ... Now our present and future.

As you point out the origins of Project 2025 were deeply ingrained in Friedman's approach to economics and politics, but its implementation was never destructively applied as it is now. With the help of toxic media on steroids and its packaging under the auspices of the Heritage Foundation, it has a strangle hold on our government that as Prof. Glaude points out is now more racist and anti-diversity.

Specific differences are noted by these two nearly instantaneous responses from Chat GPT:

A. " Milton Friedman’s economic philosophy, particularly his advocacy for free markets, limited government, and deregulation, has had a significant intellectual influence on Project 2025, though not always in direct or explicitly acknowledged ways. His principles align with many of the Heritage Foundation’s policy proposals, especially in the following areas:

1. Limited Government & Deregulation – Friedman championed reducing the role of government in the economy, which aligns with Project 2025’s goals of shrinking federal agencies, cutting regulations, and rolling back bureaucratic oversight in industries like energy, finance, and healthcare.

2. Tax Cuts & Fiscal Conservatism – Friedman’s belief in lower taxes and minimal government spending resonates with Project 2025’s proposals for tax cuts, entitlement reform, and reducing federal intervention in economic affairs.

3. School Choice & Education Policy – Friedman was a pioneer of school vouchers and education privatization. Project 2025 pushes for expanding school choice, defunding the Department of Education, and promoting alternatives to public schooling, all of which reflect Friedman’s influence.

4. Privatization of Public Services – Friedman’s belief that many government functions should be transferred to the private sector is reflected in Project 2025’s call for outsourcing services, limiting federal agency power, and reducing the regulatory reach of departments like the EPA and FDA.

However, Project 2025 also includes elements that diverge from Friedman’s philosophy. For instance:

• Trade and Industrial Policy – While Friedman was a staunch advocate of free trade, some in the modern conservative movement (especially Trump-aligned factions) embrace protectionism and tariffs, which go against his principles.

• Executive Power & Government Control – Friedman was skeptical of concentrated government power, while Project 2025 advocates for strengthening executive authority, particularly in reshaping the federal workforce and consolidating presidential control over agencies.

Overall, while Friedman’s legacy is evident in Project 2025’s economic policies, the project also incorporates nationalist and populist elements that may not fully align with his classical libertarian approach."

B. "The Heritage Foundation is the driving force behind Project 2025: Presidential Transition Project, a comprehensive conservative policy agenda designed to shape the federal government under a future Republican administration. Launched ahead of the 2024 election, Project 2025 serves as a blueprint for reshaping government institutions, policies, and personnel to align with conservative principles.

Key aspects of the Heritage Foundation’s role in Project 2025 include:

1. Policy Development – Heritage spearheaded the creation of a 900+ page policy guide called Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise, outlining proposals to overhaul federal agencies, deregulate industries, and promote conservative social policies.

2. Personnel Strategy – The project includes a detailed plan to identify and recruit personnel committed to implementing conservative policies across government agencies. Heritage runs a “Presidential Personnel Database” to vet potential appointees.

3. Coalition Building – Heritage collaborates with over 100 conservative organizations, including think tanks, advocacy groups, and former government officials, to unify the right under a shared governing vision.

4. Executive Power Expansion – The plan advocates for strengthening presidential authority, including reducing the independence of federal agencies and civil servants to ensure alignment with conservative priorities.

5. Policy Focus Areas – Key proposals cover restricting abortion access, curbing LGBTQ+ rights policies, expanding religious liberties, cutting climate change regulations, and reshaping the Department of Justice and FBI to reflect conservative views.

Heritage has positioned Project 2025 as a roadmap for a Republican presidency, particularly if Donald Trump or another conservative leader takes office. However, it has also drawn criticism from opponents who view it as a radical plan to consolidate power and roll back progressive policies."

The fact that privatization of current publicly administered programs was a paramount objective of Friedman does seem to be very much a part of Musk's business enterprises having garnered huge contracts formerly NASA's responsibility as well as numerous defense and communication satellites circling Earth and under his sometimes diabolical control with respect to Ukraine. Is there a balm in Gilead? I sure hope so but resurrecting programs shuttered and shattered and rehiring workers wondering if there's a un fragile future ahead won't be easy. But trouble we must!
