Centennial Exposition in 1876? What was there to celebrate when the entire Declaration of Independance, from the British Monarchy, was outright theft by the founding fathers to states, land belonging to indigenous people with full sovereignty.
Law professor Robert J. Miller[5] states that by 1493, "The idea that the Doctrine [of discovery] granted European monarchs ownership rights in newly discovered lands and sovereign and commercial rights over Indigenous peoples due to first discovery by European Christians was now established international law, at least to Europeans."[6] Law professor Kent McNeil,[7] however, states, "it is not apparent that such a rule was ever part of the European law of nations."[8]
Francisco di Vitoria, in 1539 Vitoria wrote that the Spanish discovery of the Americas provides "no support for possession of these lands, any more than it would if they had discovered us."
So, until the thieves are ready to redress, with reparations, this entire United States system, and its government against a sovereign people. We are only perpetuating for the next generation the greatest lie ever told.
Thank you, Professor Glaude for this thoughtful look at the past failures of our country to do the right things post Civil War and beyond.
And now King Trump has set his avaricious sights on Canada, Greenland, Panama, and even Gaza which is ripe for development now that Netanyahu has bombed it into an uninhabitable state. Note DJT never mentioned acquiring Mexico, perhaps there are too few pale skinned occupants which would increase the already well underway browning of our Nation which his followers fear of, enhanced his return to the White House.
The fact that Reconstruction failed was inevitable as the losers unleashed their wrath upon the emancipated slaves when the federal troops left the South. It saddens me to think how different it would be today had both the North and the South done the right things to provide educational and economic opportunities to those who had been inhumanely subjugated under slavery. Even today disparities persist especially in the South and in inner cities that are ignored. Our history has been a cruel one that many wish to bury from view in our educational curriculums. Warts and all, when exposed, bring honest clarity, but honesty and truth have been buried as too painful rather than using them as object lessons about the need to never repeat such inhumanity.
i see on twitter many white male farmers, who voted for trump are finding the help from the government [USAID] has stopped and these white farmers, are incredulous that trump would do this to them...to be honest, if these white farmers could'nt distinguish the nature of the man trump was for president?..what hope have we for them to make a decision of the nature of the rights of americans? [sighs] :(

Dr. Eddie,
Thanks for your thoughts .
The tapestry of America’s past is quickly becoming unraveled. It’s not a pretty sight!
America bravely replaces Jim Crow with Elon Musk—you gotta admire those poor striving whites who only want a place to own.
