!"And I do not celebrate the killing of anyone. Charlie Kirk did not deserve to be assassinated. But I'm overwhelmed seeing the flags of the United States of America at half staff, calling this nation to honor and venerate a man who was an unapologetic racist and spent all of his life sowing seeds of division and hate into this land. And hearing people with selective rage, who are mad about Charlie Kirk, but didn't give a damn about Melissa Hortman and her husband when they were shot down in their home. Tell me I ought to have compassion for the death of a man who had no respect for my own life!
I am sorry, but there is nowhere in Bible where we are taught to honor evil. And how you die does not redeem how you lived. You do not become a hero in your death when you were a weapon of the enemy in your life. I can abhor the violence that took your life but I don't have to celebrate how you chose to live.-Pastor Howard-John Wesley, Alfred Street Baptist Church, Alexandria. VA, September 14, 2025.
Thank you Eddy, with EYES WIDE OPEN. Thank you, thank you. We who are awake know what we’re doing and must continue to do… RESIST the fake prophets. They’re fake Christians who are sexual predators, grifters, liars and self-serving charlatans. The fools may be talking, but we’re not fools and we aren’t listening. We will never surrender to White Supremacy ever!
Thanks for all you’re doing to save our wonderful America! You are a true patriot.
Thank you for your insight. This is horrible political weaponization in the name of White Supremacy and Fake-Christian Nationalism. Maga is the furthest thing from Christianity by any standard. I am an atheist, but I was raised in the Episcopal Church, and active in the Church until 1996 when I realized I was no longer a believer. But I took part in many Bible studies, and studied the Bible as literature in humanities courses while in college. I do know the message of the New Testament, and I know that MAGA DOES NOT reflect any of Jesus’ teachings. Maybe because he was WOKE??!!
“Muscular Christianity”? “I am the Storm”? This is not the Christianity that raised me. God is a forgiving and loving God as is His Son. I don’t know this world in which we now live.
i saw erika's message on the youtube...at first i took it at face value...on a second time of watching it, i wondered wether this is all a theatric act, to put her at the forefront on her husbands movement, sadly i am not great teller of peoples character...i rather think we are in a case of finding out the hardway...and [with great sorrow] i fear we will find out , how "deeply" is the love coming from the republicans , because i havent seen much "love" from them in the past..and now they are incensed , i rather doubt it, in the future to come :(
Thank you. I love to read your writing. Those words, “enemies” and “ those who persecute us” stood out to me as having a worrisome meaning, as well. I am frightened for us. What has been unleashed?
So glad your mom is nearly finished with her chemo, and I hope her strength will be restored soon.
Thank you so much for continuing to remind us that all is not well in America under our current administration. May we find cures to restore some semblance of wellness! That will require us to become involved in its healing. Being 81 years old sending letters of concern to my essentially sycophantic Republican Senators and Representative as well as postings on Facebook are my meager attempts at a cure.
Once upon a time, when religion was apart of my life, I might have prayed for a cure. Now I question its efficacy in making the world a better place as these "Christian Nationalists" highjack our country. Religion has no place in government, yet there it was front and center yesterday at the extravagant memorial to Kirk, who was not a household name in my casa. In fact, I didn't know who he was, but as I learned more about him, I could not fathom that his messages were positive ones. The fact that
our country has been taken over by posers using religion to mask their malevolent 2025 plan, already in full implementation, saddens and frightens me.
Historically, religious battles and causes have been a scourge upon those who were persecuted for being other in the minds of those in power, and who, like Steven Miller and the Trump administration have elevated themselves to savior and saintly status. Those who are not a part of their predominantly rich, white (and no longer a secret) cabal have managed to capture far too many vulnerable Americans in their insidious web of deceit.
Their continued assault on truthful history, government agencies, DEI, free speech, the rule of law, and the Constitution has the power to destroy democracy and will never result in the greatness promised by Trump. Instead, his actions have brought great wealth to him, his family and his cronies at the expense of Americans whose basic needs are being diminished daily. There has been no Christ involved in their words or actions with the exception of Kirk's widow's words of forgiveness. So religion is not my primary focus, but I hope daily that civility and sanity in governance will return which will allow that the freedom of any religion to become a reality rather than Christianity becoming the national mandate by DJT's presidential fiat.
I did not, could not watch it or any coverage of it. I found it interesting that his wife said the answer to hate is not hate. I interpreted that as the hate her husband spewed should not have been met with hate.
Thank you, professor! I share your views on this completely. As usual, you articulate it better than I can. Thank you for the essential work you do. Your books, articles, and commentary help me to organize my thoughts on these issues.
This whole spectacle was terrifying to this daughter in law of Jewish Holocaust survivors. I am bolstered by your clear eyed response and being part of your circle of conscience and resistance. thank you for that.

Is it strange to write, I have no words?
I have no words. 😢
