May I scream at you for a bit? Look, you have a louder voice than I do. You have a platform on several levels - and you know what I’m tired of? I’m tired of people telling me what the problem is and not what the solution is.
And I know I’m gonna get a lot of backlash for this comment because if there’s anyone in the fight every day, even while taking care of his mama, it’s you. And yet, I need more...
I want to hear you yell at your colleagues around that MSNBC table even more: “This is BS!”
God love Nicolle Wallace for always allowing you to say whatever you want.
But I’ve said this too many times: Where are our billionaires talking about all of this?
Where are our good guys screaming about the injustices going on?
I want to see President Barack Obama at the front of some protest, locking arms with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Harris. I want to hear from Mark Cuban, Oprah, Jon Stewart and... Where is George Clooney NOW? He had the nerve to diss Joe Biden easily and loudly when he wanted to be heard. Where is all their outrage and attention to this dire place we find ourselves in?
I am tired of hearing about dread. I am tired of feeling dread. I am tired of people with a voice, with a platform, explaining to me what I already know.
Tell me what to do about it. Tell me where you will be so we can be in that protest, in that march, in that sit-in. Tell us how to vote, where to vote, how to sign up. Inspire me to fix this. Don’t double down on the dread, I need some light, I need hope, I need something…
Eddie, I am tired of walking out my home, as a Black Latina woman in Los Angeles, fearing in my soul I’mma be taken. I look how I look! I make sure I have my passport and license with me at all times. And I’m a friggin' born and raised U.S. citizen - whose mama was a citizen too - and I’m scared! Can we please DO SOMETHING more? Please.
It's all about joy? We call that toxic positivity. Anyway, Thank you Dr. Eddie for all you do!!! Btw, the Supremes just cleared the way for Trump to dismantle the Department of Education. We'd have to overthrow the government to fix this mess. Unless you have a better idea. Joy will only give you a false sense of security.
I'm sorry Arica, are you calling what I said, "toxic positivity"? I think you may be confused. The name of my company is called All About The Joy. And I'm not sure why you're trying to diss me -- but I'mma thank you anyways for commenting. But don't try and twist what I'm saying by trying to be clever - If you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to JOY, then best to leave my company's name out of it -- and no, JOY will not give you a false sense of security. Joy is hope. What you're confused by is that you don't understand the difference between JOY and Happiness. Joy is internal. We control it. Happiness is external, it's what happens to you. We have no control over that. And that's why, this comment doesn't work. But again, thank you for playing. I appreciate the TRY. And in this moment, I'll take anyone TRYING something than not doing anything at all.
So, because I'm asking others who have louder voices and bigger pulpits that means I'm doing nothing? What? Let me ask you this, what you are you doing? Today, right now, I'm calling out people who can and should be able to do more than you and I. I'm reminding people to stop wallowing in dread and continuing to EXPLAIN over and over again what the problem is and asking them to DO MORE. Today, that is what I'm doing. What are you doing? And why are you so triggered by me calling out people to do more? Wouldn't it be better if people did more? That's what I'm doing today, if you'd like a list of my volunteer work for the next month, I'll be happy to have my non-existent assistant send you my schedule. I know we all love Eddie - I do too. But goodness. I'm not calling him out because he's not doing enough, I'm calling him out because I know he can do more. And right now, instead of neighbors and friends beating up on each other, why not understand that we are all in the fight of our lives RIGHT NOW and let's all do something about it. And yes, that includes people we admire and respect -- who for whatever reason, seem to be acting as if they can't do more. And yes, I'm also talking about the "good billionaires."
Neither the Democratic leadership, nor the "good billionaires" are going to save us.
Americans should be able to self-organize to save themselves, but this is simply not happening. At best, Americans are willing to protest a few hours, every other month.
Unless this changes, we'll watch as city after city is occupied by ICE, and the Constitution is methodically shredded by the shadow docket.
Yeah, "good billionaires" is hilarious, but you get my point. Here's the thing: I actually still have faith in the American people. I do. I have NOT given up and I refuse to believe we can't get there. What I do believe is that we need actual leaders to lead. People are too comfortable complaining. People are to comfortable ready to argue with their neighbor over verbiage instead of getting together and defending our streets, our neighborhoods, our country. We need to do it. And we need to stop complaining. We're here now. We. Are. Here. Now. What can you do to stop it? What can you do in your life, with your family to STOP this? We need leaders to lead. And I love Eddie's work and have for years. I do -- but I'mma call everyone out now. Everyone. It is time to get to work.
Amen. We need to call out the Trump administration for what it is - greedy, egotistical, and indebted to the wealthiest in this country. There is no sense of responsibility or respect for the masses. And, yes, they want the US to be a white, Christian country. If they could, they would require teaching the New Testament in the public schools. As an American Jew who went to public school in the 50’s, I remember that feeling of being “other”. I live by the Jewish values of “Tikkun Olam” (making the world a better place). I still do that, but the underlying values of hate and fear of anyone not white and Christian is constantly in the background now. Keep saying it as it is, Prof Glaude.
I have tried about ten times to upgrade to paid - to subscribe at the $80 level. As has my partner. We are both told repeatedly that our credit cards (which are totally good) have been declined. I do not know how to tell the Substack powers that be that we WANT to give you money and they are making it impossible!!! Thanks. Deborah Lubar, deborahlubar@icloud.com
Thank you. Eddie! We want to support your beautiful, thoughtful, articulate work on Substack - which we value, as we have very much valued your books. Bless you. Deborah
Perfectly stated as to the problem we, who value other human beings' lives, face every day now. So how do we stop this regime from destroying the 95% of us non-millionaires? A nationwide, coordinated, massive, strike and boycott - no one goes to work, no shopping, no spending money at all, no attending school, no bus drivers, no long haul truckers driving, no deliveries, no one flying in airplanes, no one at hotels, no one at resorts or entertainment venues, no business conducted? Only hospitals and clinics open? And keep it going until a long list of demands is met?
Thank you, Professor Glaude, for all you are doing. I am a History/Government high school teacher. Your commentary, your books, and your series “History is US” have all been an enormous help to me and, I know, many others. We are in this together. All the best!

No, I am not dissing you or assuming that Joy and happiness are the same. Arica out.
OK, but what specifically are "you" doing?
You are calling for leaders, but why can't you lead...at least in your community.
If everyone waits for someone else to lead, then we'll all fail.
So, because I'm asking others who have louder voices and bigger pulpits that means I'm doing nothing? What? Let me ask you this, what you are you doing?
