A lovely tribute to a friend and life mentor. We who have had them are so lucky. They fill our lives, and those of others, with a knowledge of life and how it works like few can. You were fortunate to have this wonderful man in yours, Eddie.
This is lovely, and it's a good reminder to stay in the moment with those we love, rather than getting solo-steamed up about things we have little control over (for the next couple of years).
Bless you and all who loved your friend. I can't help but think that he would be shocked that hundreds, maybe thousands, of people all over the world would fall in love with him and grieve his absence with you. So glad you took the time to honor your friend. Let a main thing be the main thing. :-)
A beautifully written tribute to your friend. My deepest condolences to you and all whose lives were touched by him!
Now, there are two reasons I connect with your commentary. First, my grandfather’s name was Eddie. I haven’t personally met anyone with that name in my lifetime. So, seeing that name pop up in my inbox every week is quite comforting. Second, I didn’t realize you were from Mississippi—I’m from Alabama. I suppose I sensed your southern roots from your delivery.
Thank you so very much for your continued and passionate commentary!
I have not heard the term “coon can” for decades ago in my parents home, one from Mexico the other from Kansas either roots in New Orleans. Thank you for this column today.
A beautiful tribute.

Condolences for your loss. In the final analysis, we are all just walking one another home.
