Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republicans described the “No Kings” protest marches as “Hate America rallies” made up of the radical left wing of the Democratic Party – “antifa people” as he called them.
Your writings always touch me to the core, making me acutely aware of my love for the country you envision, "a country that affirms the dignity and standing of everyday, ordinary people." You and people like you make me proud to be an American.
I love you, Eddie, just love you. Love you for speaking the truth. Here's some more truth: our tax dollars are being used to fund a genocide. Our tax dollars are being used to murder innocent fishermen in another country. Our tax dollars are being used to attack, assault and disappear our neighbors. Trump and his grotesque cabinet of toadies make me ashamed to be an American. Trump's enablers and MAGA supporters make me ashamed of being human. And yet, one of your other commenters (Delores Johnson) reminded me that you and people like you make her proud to be an American. And it's true. You are the best of us. Stay well. Stay safe.
my worry that despite the solidarity of the protest, and the notably bigger crowds, it seemed to me to have less media impact......and perhaps the most important thing was that the trump administration saw the size of the protest and reign themselfs in, sadly with trump and JD posting its pretty clear, they dont really care about the protest, or public opinion[you can infir what you like about a government not caring about public opinion or its effects on elections?]....so where does that leave the american public because unless the size of the protest worries the administration, it really has had no impact against trump :(
All of that Dr. Eddie. Btw, the president posted an AI video of himself wearing a crown and flying a military plane that dumped shit on the protesters and journalists. He is vile ‼️
I agree with your sentiments. I don’t love their America—the America they are trying to force down our throats. The America that isn’t trying to live into our shared values found etched in the Statue of Liberty; listed in the Declaration of Independence, rooted in the 14th Amendment. The hatred and division stoked by Trump, Johnson, SCOTUS, and Miller is revolting. I fear our only recourse may be revolution. Maybe NY and California can start by withholding federal taxes to pay for projects like tunnel in NY that DJT is impounding—illegally. If the GOP purposely hurts blue cities and states, those states need to retaliate.
I believe that Johnson's attitude is the legacy of our founding. It began with the capitulation to the slave states, and their grievances have never ended. The rest of us,mostly all immigrants, can live here, but only under the conditions that they set(on that day). We keep having false hope that this country would embrace an accommodating attitude, and they keep readjusting their grip on power. Even SCOTUS is now admitting that they don't uphold the most foundational of statements, that "all men are created equal ". They feel that they now have absolute power, and so they can speak freely. We are in dark days.

Outstanding synopsis. Nothing else to say except Thank you!

They don’t care. They are convinced they will be able to control future elections and their outcomes. Time is not on our side. Carpe diem!

Deep Truth! Thank you!
