Well …. We need to get ready for all the crying. They didn’t care until they were affected. It’s not in sympathy with the oppressed.

This is so important. Almost 250 years and we still can't face facts. Our racist chickens have come home to roost.

I thought when Obama was elected that our country had turned a corner and we were going to be the greatest country ever -never turning back. People are people, we all bleed red, right? Who the hell cares where they came from, we’re all immigrants.

Boy was I wrong! The tea party people were annoying, I’m not sure if the people that came next were the tea party on steroids or others that had simply been quiet. & then there’s Trump, who not only fueled the flames, he supplied free wood and fire starter for this insanity and ugliness.

I’m still overwhelmed and exhausted with it all, but the bitterness and grievance is not just coming from the top down, it’s creeping into where I live. Our once friendly neighbors are barely talking to each other now. And that part is wearing me down.

I can’t wrap my head around the whole situation. None of this makes any sense!

WTH is going on in our great nation and whyyyyyyyyyyy?!?!?!

The team party became the freedom caucus and are stronger than ever, just older and louder. And definitely more dangerous. One senator from my state was in the tea party and has turned more & more rigidly right. It's frightening.

Thanks for the reminder Susan!

I googled current and previous members of the freedom caucus and remember why I blocked it and them from my brain. 🫤

The best post yet, and that's saying a lot. With humble thanks for supplying the words we need so as not to either collapse or combust.

Wonderful piece, as usual Dr. Glaude. Your story of the sentimental exchange reminded me of Baldwin’s criticism of Beecher Stowe’s character, Miss Ophelia, in Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Earnest outrage that stops short of questioning why it is that white people are comfortable providing tacit consent to racist systems and forever fixating on the “what” rather than the “why”.

Dr. Eddie,

Processing this political grief takes time and focus.

We must do it in stages as we move in a new direction. We must continue to show resilience in the face of this great turmoil.

Thank you for speaking out, Professor Glaude.

I can't stop the voices of ignorance and rage, but I hope you know that many of us are listening.

The world is witnessing the garish reality of America's insanity about race...and they are repelled.

Dr. Eddie,

I usually don’t emerge myself in regrets, BUT I wish all of the people who are participating in protests, rallies etc. had only supported and voted for Kamala at this level, perhaps we wouldn’t be having this conversation now!

Your comment about recoiling is an accurate description of how some of us are treated. Because of all the racist beliefs and presumption of superior status by many whites, even when they religiously declare they love all of God's children, they are liars. The modern day copperheads are everywhere. I was in an interracial marriage for many years. And several of the women in my religion have both verbally and physically attacked me because of my marriage. It is undeniably worse for people of color but I have endured a bit of it and understand how ugly it all is. We are all brothers and sisters on this earth. We need to love and respect each other.
