Take care of yourself, Professor Glaude. Your voice is important, and I, an 82-year old white woman, am listening. You are one of about 20 thinkers I consult every day to help me find my balance and decide what to DO.

Ditto except I’m 70. I listen and I look for what professor Glaude writes and says. Another favorite is John Meacham from Vanderbilt.

Professor Glaude, we need you and your wisdom. I look for you every day. If I’m lucky, I see you with Nicole Wallace. I enjoy reading everything you write because it is profound, worthwhile, and inspiring. Please consider yourself wrapped in the arms of light and love from all of us. You are not alone. Thank you.

Why does it always feel like one step forward and two steps back for Black people? After all these years of being put down, made to feel less than, and never seen as equal human being even in their God's eyes. It feels daunting and heavy but we can not give up. Take moments to regenerate your body and mind because the fight our ancestors fought continues through us. We exist, have always existed, and will continue no matter how they try to erase our history, our achievements, our contributions to building this country and our future to thrive in it. It's ok to rest today. We got you. We won't drop the ball. Together we rise.

Because of White Rage . Great book to read by Carol Anderson. To hate others based on their skin Color , Religion, Race , is to show your insecurity. These people feel insecure. I total ignore them . Until they face their own insecurities they will continue to bother others .

Well said Cate!

How do we help them face their own insecurities?

We must all be free and equal. Even them.

God I wish I could take this course. There's so much here that is deeply felt and I am amazed at hour artists can still scribe in these times, but we do. I learned so much about my father's rage from Baldwin, and also how to love him in spite of it. I don't know how we still care that this country doesn't burn to the ground, but we do. Take good care of yourself. I know that you will.

Europeans in America brought this madness with them from their homelands. They then spread it to the slaves they captured and brutalized and the native populations. There is a Native American saying about how white men forsook their native gods for a god of the Middle Eastern deserts and lost their souls. It makes sense to me, who has studied the world's religions most of my life. They brought the madness to this new land and imposed a very foreign god with cruelty. No wonder we are wandering in darkness. We have lost our light at our core and, centuries later, have finally descended into darkness. Please keep writing these great pieces, Eddie. You are an inspiration.

Thanks. I feel it's time to stop pretending we are ok. We haven't been for a very long time, all of my life, and I just turned 77.

Saw you on Deadline today and knew I had to come here TODAY and not wait for the weekend. Thank you for your honesty and vulnerability. You are a prophetic voice in this madness that calls us to recognize the truth for what it is. My thoughts turn toward Isaiah. Your voice is even more critical in these times. Please take the time you need to care for yourself.

Dr. Eddie,

Many of us feel your same pain today.

Sometimes our patience comes with an expiration date!

“There is the madness of the nation that refuses to know itself and shapes the world in such a way to avoid confrontation with that refusal.”

This. This is what Baldwin wanted us to understand in a deep and abiding way. On my refrigerator is his statement, “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” We refuse to confront ourselves and so the violence on which this nation was founded continues.

As an earlier commenter said, take care of yourself, please. You are an inspiration to me and an important voice in my life and in the lives of many.

To keep from being too discouraged I try to think of it as being given another chance to crush this shit once and for all. We keep trying and failing but we keep getting another chance. Maybe this is our last chance this time. (“We” “us” “our” = this constitutional republic). You are truly needed now Professor ❤️‍🩹

its always difficult to deal with fathers as son's...we always see them as slightly Godlike in a childs eye, allknowing, but when we become adults we see the frailties, the faults, the mistakes , the family ridden compulsions, and other factors that have shaped them, making them all they are, the good and the bad. I think Baldwin refused to be shaped, and then perhaps he saw his father in himself at that point, and knew he had somewhat failed, as you say.

As for america, start a new lecture or a book and name it as elegantly as you said last time "Have we really got to do this shit all over again"...for i think its the most fitting title of the era :(

Dearest Eddie, I am a 74 year old white woman and the rage in me at this country’s utter failing to live up to its promise of EQUALITY. I for one am so very sorry for that. I truly cannot fathom how we continue to hold onto the ugly and unforgivable attitudes of hate and division. You are one of my very favorite humans and to watch you in the abject pain and horror that you are obviously enduring is beyond words and horror. One of my perpetual mottos in MY life has always been “this to shall pass.” But at what cost for you folks, all of our immigrant population, all of us women, etc. I am afraid that my wish that all those pathetic, angry white men who have ruled the rest of us so mercilessly, choke on their hateful bile for all eternity. The utter ingrates infuriate me so! When is enough, enough?
