You DO know what to do---you're doing it. You're being the role model we all need, the rock upon which we stand, the heart we need to expand. You do know. And you also know what the past teaches us about situations such as ours, circumstances much worse than ours and the "ordinary" people who fought and overcame them. Spread the truth. That's what you do.
Thank you, Professor Glaude, for all that you do and for your vulnerability and empathy. Your students are incredibly fortunate to have you with them in the breach during this perilous time., as are we all. Stay safe and well.
Great post. No we are not ok and we won’t be until the orange stain is gone. I am tired of having a knot in my stomach every day. I am tired of seeing justice perverted. I am tired of the cruelty. And most of all, I am disgusted with the republican party’s acceptance of this disaster as if it’s just another day at the office.

Amen, Dr. Glaude. And that's not going to be easy. But we adults have to stand tall and exemplify what it means to push back. If that means letting your adult kids and grandkids stay with you for awhile, fine, as long as they're out there protesting, writing to their congressmen, and brainstorming new ideas going forward. These are the times that try men's souls.
We hold tight unconditionally to each other across the country which is huge and beautiful and powerful. We make a human chain that is unbreakable in that holding and thus staunchly hold to the good. Because it will prevail in creating the country We, the People want! We can do this, but it transcends generational, political, social, and genderized divides. It's moving, gradually into the unknown, but we know where we want to be, so our vision is clear, and clearer than we think. WE WANT A BETTER COUNTRY, A BETTER AMERICA FOR ALL, BUT WE HAVE TO DO THE WORK TO GET THERE! HOPE LEADS US!

Thank you kind deep soul. Your honest insights have propped us up for a very long time. Today, the ministers, like Barber are at the Capital advocating for humanity. They will carry your water or you can join them. Trump coming after DEI and WOKEness is the shoving of "others", people of color, backwards. It's on poverty as well and that is a white issue, too. The subtleties of being put down and even killed by starvation, houselessness, lack of healthcare, lack of education, lack of everything is violently destructive. It's a war. A war committed upon us, by Trump and his wingnut cabinet and hate filled advisors plus the roll over GOP party to defy "We the People". I have no answer other than if you haven't advised your college to join in the Harvard University Compact, then make sure you do, no matter how tired you are. Rest today knowing faith leaders are doing the job. Make friends with J.B. Pritzker, Gov. of IL, to make the inroads to what you know America needs. He wants to run for President. Go to a quiet spot and recover. You have been in the Emergency Room for us for ages. It's ok to take time to refuel. Bless you.
Thank you for this post. As a fellow prof, I see these reactions in my students and feel the pain that they have. FWIW, I have started each class this semester with an "AMA" (Ask Me Anything") session, and if that means we don't get to all of the lesson for the day, then that's ok. I also post relevant news by/about our campus (U of Minnesota Twin Cities) so students can try to keep up. Finally, and I thank you for your forbearance if you have read this far, I have shared this media bias chart https://app.adfontesmedia.com/chart/interactive With them. I regularly ask what they are using to keep up with the news. My classes are on history and the Mississippi River, so this whole semester has been a dance between the world and the class.
That life hasn’t come to a screeching halt continues to befuddle me. Do I go on like all this is normal? Or do I stay in “fight mode” 24/7? Most people on Substack seem clear-eyed about the fight we are in and are ready to resist. Many want a revolution. But in this red state (purple county) the office, pharmacy, smoothie, post office, gas station…life goes on as usual.

Thank you for expressing what we are all feeling right now. I appreciate your words and thoughts on our young people and our world.

Thank you, Dr. Glaude, and may we collectively do the same for you.

THIS THIS THIS!!!!!
Dr. Glaude,
I really wanted to comment on your post from Friday(?). but I was too emotional to communicate effectively.
We are all suffering and struggling now, but to see the despair in your eyes, broke my heart.
I don’t know you, but those of us with compassion and love in our hearts, understand how very important it is to be seen and heard.
I believe that your empathy and compassion is a gift for your students❤️🩹

I work on a University campus and I see the look that you write about. I worry.
This is tender and beautiful. Thank you for expressing how I feel so eloquently.
You are so right Doc. The kids aren't ok. The adults aren't ok. We truly need to embrace community and support one another.

It feels almost sacrilegious to be living life as we usually do. Because nothing is right. They have a right to be on the verge of tears.
