Wow! The quote at the end really gets your mind reeling and thinking. “…we have the somewhat inchoate idea that we are not destined to be harassed with great social questions, and that even if we are, and fail to answer them, the fault lies with the question and not with us.” Powerful! I will find that book and read. Knowledge is power. Self-reflection can be an awakening of who we are vs who we truly want to be. The vote in November will be telling. I still believe “in the shining city on a hill” and “a place called Hope”, not because of the men who said those words (Reagan and Clinton respectively) but because it makes us strive to be better. I would love to be in your class. Thank you for making me step back, become thoughtful and to become a better version of myself.
I wish I could study under you at Princeton, Dr. Glaude. I would love that and learn so much. I’m so glad you have a Substack and love reading your books.
Who knew the expanse of that question better than DuBois? I sense that Dr. King may have had that quotation in mind—consciously or not—as he wrote about the mountaintop.

Fantastic! I didn’t know you had a Substack. I look forward to being part of it. (Great seeing you in Austin!)

The presidential debate made my belief that Love is the light that overshadows all darkness of hate even stronger!

Talking about tying a bow on it! Bravo!
