In the same manner that Du Bois wrote to Booker T. Washington, telling him that his speech was "fitly spoken," I say the same of this article. And, I add that the equally pressing problem is the number of people who have been seduced or tricked into aiding Prometheus with is futile mission. Thus, at some point, we must also have a discussion about the manner in which self-hatred has caused so many people of color to aid in their own demise. The truth is that white people, alone, didn't build this country. As such, white people, alone, can't destroy it. Yet, they continue to get a great deal of help from people who continue to believe that whiteness is more than just magic beans.

I also read Du Bois spoke out againts Marcus Garvey as well. Seems there will always be one that prefers proximity to whiteness over freedom.

rereading this in the current context is sobering, to say the least. Having grown up in the 70's, when it seemed that equality and justice were our greatest aspirations, it is profoundly sad to know that what DuBois wrote about in 1910 is perhaps even truer today. We are moving in the wrong direction, and it's terrifying to witness.
