a good sentimental piece ..talking of cards reminds me of playing various card games[with my grandfather], with a small wooden board with holes in it which recorded the score of each side....its always amazing to me, that 2 generations away, perhaps card games where a central feature of entertainment for the evening..compared to my generation, where the time was mainly spent with a communual watch of the tv[generally my fathers choice unless my mother didnt like the way the program was presented in which case she would demand[and generally get her way]to change to something else]..to finally where we are now , with computer games, mobile phones, dvd's ,movies on tape, music from phones etc....i still cant imagine living in a house heated with one coalfire in the living room..how much has changed in so small a time :(
On the surface we are opposite. I’m a privileged white female with an education from very a mediocre institution who once aspired to be a writer. Your writing takes me to my southern childhood and shared values (the respect and honor of integrity, keeping your word, helping our fellow man or person). I am so touched every time I read your writing. Both my parents are gone now and I witness your cherishing yours while they are here and all they are. It’s a special and difficult time of life when “they are watching you watch them.” Godspeed to you. Thank you for igniting my cherished memories of Easter, cornbread, and being in the bosom of family. Peace to you.
This was so heartwarming, especially as I sit at the table with my 98 year old Mom Whois now showing signs of Dementia! I’m sandwiched between her and my 27 year old! Time waits for no one! Thanks Sir!
Really lovely writing, Eddie. Thanks for sharing this.
Dr. Eddie,
It’s a blessing to still be able to enjoy your parents. Keep falling in love with this journey called Life!
Eddie, lovely lovely essay! 💖
Thank you as always...I was right there in the kitchen with your beautiful Family 💙

YOU - kind sir - DID THAT!
(This is a GORGEOUS piece of writing!)
Very sweet memories
This piece reminded me of ia song we use sing in the old Baptist Church in Louisiana: “Precious memories” how they linger how they ever flood my soul.
