Wow, that was a lot and it was so good with my coffee this morning! I took notes! I wish you were my professor when I was in college. Today I finally understood something that I could not articulate, but you said in reference to Harvard and the like (I'm paraphrasing), "They are using the Donald Trump administration as cover for a RESET." OH MY GOODNESS! That's exactly what is happening in all areas, right? Whether it's using ICE to get all these "criminals" off the street (IE Brown and Black folk) or Universities, or Museums -- that's exactly why people ARE capitulating!

Thank you for this learning moment today. I mean, I didn't like hearing you call Joe Scarborough your friend, but that's none of my business and still, I loved that you called him out on the BS. Blessings to you and your family and may you and your mom enjoy a wonderful card game!

'My friend' resonates in multiple ways. Eddie is always gracious with Joe, but he brings the fire to the guy and that use of friend is also useful in calling him out boldly and testing their relational grounds.

Understood. And makes total sense. I love watching Eddie on the shows when I can catch him, and I see him with Nicole Wallace when I'm on my lunch break here in Los Angeles - it's that fire that he brings that works. But Joe is... a pure disappointment to me on several levels. And the fact that he still remains on MSNBC when Joy Reid does not, speaks volumes on several levels. And I'm not a huge fan of Joy Reid, but what Joe did and Mika for that matter was plenty to be dismissed. But you know, the grand capitulation continues. And Joe and Mike are great examples of that. So, I understand, but I'm still calling it out. I don't like hearing Eddie call him a friend. I get it, but it's the one part I didn't like is all. But you are also absolutely right.

Thoughtful! I agree with you. The capitulation is so much the go-to response everywhere.

For sure! We are so on the same page! I have to get to work, but thank you Debra. I feel like he's given me so much to think about - and I'm both glad about the lesson, but mad we are here to begin with. But, I'm going to think about what I can do with my skillset - and go from there! Have a lovely day! 🤗

I am a middle aged lady, living alone. I have lived in 5 states and 3 countries. On the 3rd of July 2024, after revisiting in different areas of DC for 5 years to learn neighborhoods and studying the city (and many other US and intl cities) while getting a masters degree in Urban Planning, I CHOSE to move to the center of downtown. Near MLK library. I walked everywhere almost every day often for 30-45 minutes at a time.

It is a wonderful walking city, a place you do not need a car and used metro all the time. I saw people care and clean its streets from tourist liter. I saw police in the metro. I saw officers in areas around the WH. Never felt fear. I felt the need to take pictures of a reviving city investing and building a 21st century capital. The waterfronts, the sports venues for baseball, soccer and ice hockey. The 40,000 new units of housing built since 2019. The new sewer systems to clean the rivers. The green roofs, bike & scooter rental infrastructure. It was meeting the projects occurring all across the EU & Asia, not STAGNATING AND ROTTING from cutting taxation for decades that “conservatives” lie will elevate the country.

In 2022 I studied abroad in Antwerp on sustainable cities and flood mitigation projects. It was a city that had history and yet was moving forward. DC was similar and even better - embracing of knowledge and human diversity. When Joe Scarborough rants about crime I want to ask him if he has lost his damn mind. Our capital is glorious. Does it have issues that are different than any other city in America? No. Are there pockets of crime that need COMMUNITY POLICING, you bet.

As Mark Blyth states, America suffers from “ ‘can’t live with it, can’t live without it, don’t want to pay for it’”. Half of our homeless have jobs, but their PAY is so low they cannot rent where they live. The other half suffer various forms of mental illness and need care, unless we openly now want to send them all into the forest to die. Which seems the MAGA plan. DC has 850 beds in the winter months for 3,500 people in a city with 700,000 residents. We can waste $5 trillion in Afghanistan and Iraq, but cannot build treatment centers to help our own citizens transition or be cared for?

THIS is the daily conversation for REAL political leadership. Either they have the backbone for it, or we need to replace them.

My first response was: Washington DC is a beautiful and amazing city that’s why everyone comes there to experience history!

Thank you for directly pointing to Scarborough's use of crime worry to trouble any critique of the DC takeover. Joe gives ground to Trump predictably due to his own residual GOP allegiance, his life blood.

Crispus Attucks is my brother in freedom. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. No kings in this land. Long live Lewis Hayden! Donnys come lately, recent immigrants, like DJT have no long-term perspective on this country. Lost souls like this man and his first generation offspring, raised by immigrants, are generations behind Frederick Douglas. America is an enlightenment fueled project that has always been a work in progress. Random white dude in solidarity.

We as a Black community have to stop ignoring the sings of capitulation among ourselves! We too have that go along to get along mentality that absolutely does not serve us well at all!
