Watch now | Eddie discusses the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the role of ICE in domestic terrorism, and the broader implications for American democracy. He highlights the alarming trends in election integrity and the attacks on the Fourth Estate, urging listeners to recognize the stakes involved and to take action. Eddie draws on historical reflections, particularly the works of James Baldwin, to emphasize the need for courage and collective action in the face of systemic injustice.
Never quit saying what is at the root of all of this—racism. As a 72 year old white man Southern man, who spent 40 years teaching American history to high school students, I wholeheartedly embrace your analysis of where we are and why we are here. Until we acknowledge the truth there can be no justice and as MLK said”injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere “. So much broken that it is hard to know where to begin. But begin with learning the truth. That is where your voice is so important. Can’t wait to read your new book coming out in May. And as one of my favorite Substack writers ends all his reflections—Defiance til Death0!
A powerful reminder of what is at stake and that to get out of this mess will have an "enormous cost that some may be unwilling to pay." Some have paid the price. But we all have a role to play--no one can sit on the sidelines. It is obvious we are not going to vote our way out of this mess. Bolder action is needed including attacks on the economic oppression that keeps people from being willing to stand up, walk out and stop being cogs in the wheel of capitalist oppression.
"...to end the racial nightmare...". "...to make America White again...". Do White folk really believe this? I have good friends -- good decent folk -- on the "correct side" of things and honestly, they still seem hesitant to fully grasp this. Maybe it's denial, because it's too hard to embrace? I don't know. But it scares me because I know it in my bones it's TRUE! I believe the Don Lemon issue is much bigger than we're fully understanding. Stealing the ballots... all of this, is so disheartening. It's good to hear your voice - summarizing and helping me stay standing, with my head held kinda high... but I cannot lie, it's all so hard. "...I really do believe that we can all become better than we are. But the price is enormous, and people are not yet willing to pay it.” ~James Baldwin.

It’s about black people being blocked from voting.
You told us this would happen in Gaza when you came to Abyssinian Baptist Church.
