In this early edition of the Weekly Wrap Up, Eddie reflects on the current political climate in America, particularly focusing on the implications of recent legislation that threatens the welfare of the American middle class and the poor. He discusses the hypocrisy of political leaders who claim to uphold Christian values while enacting policies that harm vulnerable populations. Eddie emphasizes the need for collective action and civil engagement to combat the erosion of democracy and social safety nets, urging listeners to prepare for the challenges ahead while holding onto hope for change.
I've pleaded for national boycotts and general strikes for years.
Americans simply are not suffering enough to act...I'm truly not certain that anything will move Americans to act collectively for more than a few hours of protest every other month.
Listening to you and hearing the tears you're holding back, made mine flow freely. Yes, you know by now they passed the bill. And then, they danced and cheered. Yes, it all makes sense now: America was a corporation before it was a nation. But, so what? We were at least taking two steps forward, even if they were small steps and slow as molasses (I'd say something else like a curse word here, but just in case your mama is reading the comments). I don't know what to do Eddie. I know you keep telling us to hold our loved ones close and those of us who have the loves to hold have done so, but we're watching others be taken by ICE and know people are about to suffer incredibly... it's a very tough time. And yes, I agree they broke the social contract, but again I say, so what? The fight feels so much larger and it feels lonely out here in the streets. Where are OUR rich folk who know better? Where are our leaders who fight harder and better? I am shook by Republicans like Lisa Murkowski who... never mind, I know I'm preaching to the choir. I am so scared. And for the first time, in all my life -- the change that's coming isn't a hopeful one. For the first time, I heard this song and the ache was painfully real. I ain't celebrating nothing tomorrow. I'm too heartbroken over what we have become.
What’s so damn sad is that millions of middle and working class Americans, specifically 77 million voted for this ruinous path that we find ourselves! Is this bigotry, hatred, or pure stupidity?
And it is right and proper to dispair, because a terrible thing is happening, and you are a deeply thoughtful and caring person. But that dispair will not subsume you. I remember Mr Rogers talking to a child during a dark and frightening time, and he told them “Look for the helpers. There will always be people running towards the danger to help others.” You are one of the helpers, and with this Substack, provide a way for helpers to join hands and gain strength.
Thank you, Professor Glaude for this posting. I’m crying again listening to your words, as well as Sen Warnock’s about the Bible. My July 4 will be very quiet and low key. It’s not time to celebrate, imho, but hopefully in time we will have a reason to. I will heed your call to brace for what’s coming, and what is already here. And also steps we can take to fight all of these terrible policies. I’m glad that your mother is improving. God be with you all.
Cheer up! A brighter day is coming. We may bend, but we won’t break if we work together. Continue to spread your seeds of happiness. Enjoy the holiday weekend with your family.
I look for this message each week, to get a real summary of the worlds actions each week. Powerful.
I SAY WE STRIKE -ALL ACROSS THE NATION!

I will be on the ready. I even own several pitchforks!😉
Unfortunately Senator Warnock, too many Americans don’t see their American brethren as worthy of their empathy nor sympathy!

I cried too!
😔
We must band together Dr. Glaude to fix this abomination!

Nihilism, rage, and and the death of empathy.

So true.

Thank you sir. You are beloved!
Dr. Eddie,
Cheer up! A brighter day is coming. We may bend, but we won’t break if we work together. Continue to spread your seeds of happiness. Enjoy the holiday weekend with your family.
Thank you, Eddie.
Please ask the question “why “!!
American citizens want to know “why can’t the Democrats keep their shit together to get things done For the People” when they have the numbers?
Not just MAGA- Republicans all
I hear you. The only answer now is armed rebellion, time to accept that and get on with it. There's no happy ending here.
Thanks for speaking up and sharing truth. Below is a poem to encourage you. https://open.substack.com/pub/poetpastor/p/democracy-lives?utm_source=app-post-stats-page&r=5gejob&utm_medium=ios
I HAVE A DREAM THAT WE THE PEOPLE TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY AND REIGNITE LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!!!
