Watch now | This week, Eddie discusses reminds us to keep an eye on Israel & Gaza, while also being aware of the ongoing government shutdown and its serious implications for vulnerable populations. He reflects on recent election outcomes that signal a shift in voter sentiment. As always, Eddie concludes with a call to action for collective engagement in the ongoing fight for democracy and social justice.
I share that moment from Sephanie Ruhl with people ALL THE TIME. To me it is the most important observation about the election that anyone has spoken. Thank you for keeping that at the forefront.
people are crazy if they're going to fly right now you remember the planes dropping out of the FNAir The train stations and bus stations gotten so busy you have lost your mind if you were going to get on the airplane
I just want to mention a few things - first, Marc Elias needs to be protected at all costs. He is working tirelessly and, well... I just wish I could give him a hug and say thank you. Second, I don't think enough is discussed about how much the Republican party and Trump wants to dismantle "Obamacare" because it's Obama's signature bill. They have tried over 70 times to get rid of it and I think it's important to understand their resolve. And lastly, I am more inclined to believe that the messaging - the fight - has gotten clearer for the American people. There are a lot of reasons why, but although I love the talk of "grassroots" the other part of this IS that we need leaders to help mold that anger. And let's not make light of No Kings mobilization and yes, leaders all over the place, who are finally fighting back. Mamdani is a reflection of that fight. We crave a path forward and yes, have been waiting for the party to catch up. But, for a while there, it was painful to want to fight and not know how or where to go... this is not to weaken the movement, but it's to continue to be transparent and honest about what is happening. It's not magic. It's not miraculous. It's hurting us every day to watch ICE, grocery store prices and.... yes, watching the East Wing demolition... all of that pain has to go somewhere and so, we're all in the fight now. I just want to give credit also, to where credit is due. Yes, the people. But yes, watching real leaders emerge to guide and walk us through... also impressive.
I agree with your take. I think we should resist the knee jerk tendency for Democratic leaders and pundits to reduce the Election result to a convenient talking point around affordability. That is much too small a frame. At the demonstrations I have attended, including No Kings 1 and 2— the people are feeling much more. And their participation and I believe their voting was meant to communicate a much larger message about what they want and what they don’t want. If the Dems leadership can’t get out of their own heads and make this about the people and what kind of country we want to live in across a broad range of social, cultural and economic issues as opposed to boiling it down to a pundit or poll driven talking point and then force feeding it back to the people they will waste this moment and pay a terrible price going forward. But if they can acknowledge this energy and follow it, not try to corral it, we have an incredible and somewhat surprising opportunity to come out on the other side, better.
Love the choice of music and really appreciate your animation, and yes yes yes to all you said this week. Thank you as always for your clarity and, dare I say, push toward positive change being possible. . .
Enjoy your time at the book fair. Stay animated because we have to use whatever modalities we can to get our point across! We must decide if we want to continue to buy what the current administration is offering!
